A Vision is a compelling statement or image of what we are wanting to become in the future. It is a vital ingredient of success and even more critically, of happiness, as it connects humans with the task they engage with. A good vision is not only positive and inspiring but also helps organizations transform in difficult circumstance as it has the quality to galvanise humans and help them deliver their best.

Operating without a vision can often result in one or more of the following symptoms
A singular lack of purpose for days on end
A feeling of emptiness, restlessness & dissatisfaction
Constantly changing wish list & priorities
Growing attrition & dissatisfaction in the team

Visioning Methodology
Given the premium on Top Management time, as well as the difficulty on converging on a long term vision, Visioning is a difficult exercise. One way to break this constraint is to invest significantly in pre-work (one or two weeks) before launching a formal visioning workshop or seminar. The pre-work covers insights generated thru various organisational studies, especially a detailed diagnostic exercise and bolstered with research on similar, relevant or competitive organizations as well as the aspirations of the current staff and stakeholders. The quality of pre-work as well as short personal interviews with key stakeholders will give you an insight on the diversity in the group and help you design the workshop better.

Vernalis has helped several organizations in discovering and sharpening their Vision. The final vision statement is tested for efficacy on 5 parameters including its ability to seed and sustain transformation

Key steps in a visioning workshop have included:
1. Stakeholders Envision for themselves
2. Envision for other key stakeholders
3. Synthesise list of aspirations
4. Challenge if conventional
5. Test for balance between aspiration & Realism
6. Develop final vision statement
7. Test the vision statement *
